“Horizons Below” was a 2026 solo exhibition at SWALE Lab on Governors Island, NYC, organized by ecoartspace. Based on my residency with the Urban Soils Institute, I developed an installation of mixed-media painting, assemblage, and textile rooted in a symbolic soil profile of Governors Island. The work traces the island’s layered ecological and cultural histories through the lens of the Anthropocene. Drawing on local urban soils, photography, and influences including psychogeography, Impressionism, and Arte Povera, I explores the ecological uncanny embedded in place, matter, and memory. I consider the power of soil horizons below to tell stories buried from above.
